An Event Service Framework for Distributed Real-Time Systems

چکیده
Many distributed systems use events for asynchronous communication. Although the CORBA Event Service provides a flexible model for event-based communication among objects, further work is needed to support the important features required by real-time applications such as network management, avionics, etc. where timely delivery of events and more complex event correlation are desirable. In this work, we identify a set of real-time event service requirements that are found in a distributed environment, i.e., event registration, composite event specification, event timing constraint specification and timely composite event detection and event dispatching. We propose the design of a Real-Time Event Service Center object as a top-level architecture for event services. We then focus on one of the key issues in this architecture: the specification, compilation and detection of composite events. A specification language for composite events is proposed in this paper and the problem of how to efficiently detect the occurrence of these composite events as early as possible is investigated in [13, 19]. To justify the practicality of our approach, a Java package is being developed to specify, compile and detect various composite events. We outline the architecture of this pack-

Recent Developments in Discrete Event Systems
This article is a brief exposure of the process approach to a newly emerging area called "discrete event systems" in control theory and summarizes some of the recent developments in this area. Discrete event systems is an area of research that is developing within the interstices of computer, control and communication sciences. The basic direction of research addresses issues in the analysis an...
متن کاملA Non-Preemptive Two-Class M/M/1 System with Prioritized Real-Time Jobs under Earliest-Deadline-First Policy
This paper introduces an analytical method for approximating the performance of a two-class priority M/M/1 system. The system is fully non-preemptive. More specifically, the prioritized class-1 jobs are real-time and served with the non-preemptive earliest-deadline-first (EDF) policy, but despite their priority cannot preempt any non real-time class-2 job. The waiting class-2 jobs can only be s...
متن کاملTowards a generic, service oriented framework for distributed real-time systems
Continuously increasing complexity and scale of distributed real-time systems have exposed the limitations of their existing development methodologies. This fact is evident by the unsustainable rate of increase in the development and maintenance costs of such systems. In this paper, we present a generic, service-oriented framework for distributed real-time systems. The proposed framework can po...
متن کاملControlling a CORBA Real-time Event Channel with QuO Middleware
Due to recent advances in the capabilities of MEMS components, it is now feasible to use commodity-off-the-shelf (COTS) middleware to develop high-performance real-time embedded systems. Such systems have stringent requirements for latency, determinism, and priority preservation. The current generation of COTS middleware does not give the application developer the ability to specify and control...
متن کاملModeling and Evaluation of Stochastic Discrete-Event Systems with RayLang Formalism
In recent years, formal methods have been used as an important tool for performance evaluation and verification of a wide range of systems. In the view points of engineers and practitioners, however, there are still some major difficulties in using formal methods. In this paper, we introduce a new formal modeling language to fill the gaps between object-oriented programming languages (OOPLs) us...
